Coca-Cola and Merlin In Reverse Vending Recycling Partnership

Coca-Cola and Merlin Entertainment have joined forces to offer a 50 per cent discount, in respect of entry to some of the UK’s best-known attractions, to customers who use reverse vending machines to recycle 500mm plastic bottles. That discounts apply to some 30 major destinations, including Alton Towers Resort, Thorpe Park Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort; the LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort and Warwick until 31st March 2020.

After positive consumer feedback and demand following the 2018 launch of the initiative, 23 reverse vending machines will now be available for people to recycle any 500ml plastic bottle. The machines are conspicuously and conveniently sited at the attractions’ exits. The machines have been specifically designed for the task by Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola and Merlin are delighted to extend this initiative after great success in 2018′, said Sandra Hazel, Head of Force for Good at Merlin Entertainment. ‘We care about recycling and know that our customers do too. The Coca-Cola and Merlin is a great way to work together to protect our planet and is just one of the initiatives we are invested in to increase recycling at our attractions.’

The announcement comes after Merlin Entertainments conducted a broader review of single use plastics across the business, including the phasing out of plastic straws at all its attractions.

“Recycling doesn’t need to be boring and we want to reward and recognise people for doing the right thing and making it easier to recycle on the go’ said Kris Robbens, Marketing Director at Coca-Cola Great Britain. ‘This is just one of the steps we’re taking to ensure our packaging is as sustainable as possible and making it easier for people to recycle.’

The Coca-Cola and Merlin partnership builds on several actions taken by Coca-Cola in Great Britain as part of its sustainable packaging strategy launched in 2017, including announcing the plan to move glaceau smartwater to 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles later this year, saving 3,100 tonnes of virgin plastic.

The vouchers are valid for one person only, for one attraction; until 17.10.19 at Alton Towers Resort, Thorpe Park Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort and the LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort and until 31.03.20 at all other participating attractions.
