You would be forgiven in thinking that the Gourmet Gift Basket Monster
Cup of Coffee is the biggest in the world, but it isn’t!
They are actually the previous winners on The Guinness Book of World Records – but we couldn’t find any video or anything else for that matter on De’longhi’s latest success.
When a link about The World’s largest cup of coffee appeared in the offices of Planet Vending we thought, ‘that’s a bit of fun, we’ll pop that up on PV’. So we set about finding out more about the story and other than finding another blog reference there was amazingly a complete lack of coverage from De’Longhi (the winners in 2012) themselves. We checked out The Guinness Book of World Records and sure enough, since November 2012, their immense cup of coffee is currently the world’s largest!
It contains 13,200 litres (2,903.6 UK gal; 3,487.1 US gal) and was created by De’Longhi (Italy), in London, UK, on 5 November 2012.
They used black coffee and the cup measured 2.9 m (9 ft 6 in) tall and 2.65 m (8 ft 8 in) wide. (That’ll do! Ed.)
We googled and searched and checked out their websites but not a mention anywhere connected to De’Longhi. It got us to wondering why on earth go the trouble of this, obviously expensive, stunt when they weren’t going to make the most of the PR opportunity? From our point of view this is a major faux pas. Our PR side of the business, reynoldscopy, would be fired if we came up with such a great idea and let it sit on someone else’s blog or news site. Guinness Book of Records winners should shout louder don’t you think? If Mark Swift from De’Longhi would like to get in touch with us then we would love to write a story about the background… Pass it on!
Apart from the De’Longhi attempt at the record there have been others making the claim of largest cup of coffee. Some are a bit more managable than the mega 13,200 litre capacity from De’Longhi but are nonetheless impressive.
